Hello Readers!
I am Akshay Hiremath, and was born in 1973. I hail from Delhi but I have had an international upbringing. My father was the Indian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Bhutan, Yugoslavia and Austria. So, my childhood was spent in these various countries, and I had the good fortune of having been exposed to a lot of different cultures during my formative years.
When I was 16, my father retired, and we returned to Delhi. I finished my high school from Modern School (Delhi), my BA in Mathematics from Hindu College (Delhi), and my MBA from XLRI (Jamshedpur). I then spent 15 years in the corporate sector. I worked with Britannia Industries Ltd and with Nokia India Pvt Ltd, serving in different roles in Sales in Marketing, across Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru and Gurugram.
I was keen on working on my own terms, so I decided to become an entrepreneur. My heart lay in travel. I was an avid international traveler, and I used to collect souvenirs from every place I went to. I wanted to marry my passion for travel, with the work I do. So, I set up my own travel souvenir company, Memory Marg. My company makes souvenirs of Indian heritage monuments, and the product range includes fridge magnets, playing cards, and a host of other items for travelers.
Besides travel, I have a lot of other interests as well. I love playing Chess & Scrabble, and am a rated player in both these games. I enjoy photography, and do a lot of it during my travels, plus on special occasions with family and friends. I like listening to western pop music, and I track the US and UK pop music charts regularly. I enjoy watching movies, both Hollywood and Bollywood ones, and personal favourites include James Bond and Amitabh Bachchan. Though I barely play tennis, I follow the sport with keen interest, and I never miss a Grand Slam final, plus I have the ATP rankings on my fingertips. I am also an avid blogger, and have written over 130 blogs, largely on travel, but also on my other interests.
I currently live in Gurugram with my wife and young son.
I look forward to interacting with you through my various handles.
