Asavari 4.0 out of 5 stars A treatise on coming to terms with bullying Reviewed in India on 5 August 2020Verified Purchase I finished this short book in one evening, feeling a lurch of recognition throughout. The writing is engaging and has a light touch, which somehow brings into greater relief the suffering it chronicles. You cannot read it and not feel for the boy who cannot hit back, who struggles with shame, and retreats into a solitary bubble. At the same time, you cannot help but admire his quiet strength and the compassion he manages to muster for those who act unconscionably towards him. While the author writes that he intends this book to help parents help their kids (and indeed it does), I found its greatest value in how it helps adults come to terms with and make sense of the bullying they endured as kids. The writing is deeply personal and does not deploy the glib language of self-help books, which to me made it far more effective as a therapeutic tool. The author does not attempt to gloss over the fact that bullying can change you permanently but also demonstrated that those changes do not have to mean that you are forever broken. I do believe that the book could have been tightened in some parts, and expanded in others but it is immensely readable and highly recommended. HelpfulComment Report abuse
Abha Bordoloi 5.0 out of 5 stars Standing Tall Always. 🤗 Reviewed in India on 6 August 2020Verified Purchase After a long time I finished this amazing book by my friend, in one go ... Resonated with my childhood experiences, which at that point in time, I brushed away calling them mere teasing and bottling up on those for years together. Loved every line and felt, I was right there seeing it happen with the author! A must read for every parent and child. Each will have their own method to battle these bullies. gagupta 4.0 out of 5 stars How to tackle a problem that rarely gets talked about Reviewed in India on 3 August 2020 In a world where school education is changing rapidly, you get to read books about how to improve your child's scores, skills, EQ,IQ,PQ, life skills etc. But very rarely do you get to read a book on how to help your child cope with bullying. Because, like the author of the book, most children who are bullied, rarely talk about it. As a parent, you should read this book to understand how bullying traumatises a child for life and how you can step in without the child asking for help. In one of the most beautifully written books on bullying 'Wonder', Mr Tushman says "be kinder than necessary". Read this book to help your child believe in themselves and become kinder than necessary. Recommended for parents and school teachers. The reason I give this 4 stars and not 5, is because bullying in the corporate world deservesa separate book altogether, not just one chapter. Is the author willing to go all out about bullying in the corporate world? 4 people found this helpful Helpful1 Comment Report abuse
Baisali 5.0 out of 5 stars A Moving Personal Account About Bullying and its Afermath Reviewed in India on 15 August 2020 This was hard for me to read, because it brought back a flood of memories that I choose to keep locked in a box and hidden away from light. This is a difficult book about a difficult topic. It's hard-hitting and sensitive at the same time. You cannot help but be moved by the author's personal narrative. His experiences pain you. His quiet strength and resilience move you. A must read for students, teachers and parents. Students -- you must know that you are not alone, it's not your fault and it's okay to tell someone. Teachers -- you must keep your eyes and ears open, the signs are usually in the classroom, and don't let the situation spiral out of control Parents -- you must recognise the signs and always always keep the lines of communication open HelpfulComment Report abuse
Ruchika 5.0 out of 5 stars Stop Bullying early on! Reviewed in India on 3 August 2020 Bullying is such a sensitive - yet underrated- topic even with all the awareness around it. The personal experiences of the author greatly help in understanding how it can shape the victim’s whole personality. I would recommend this to everyone - adults, teenagers and especially parents. Reading early signs of bullying can greatly help minimise the impact. One person found this helpful HelpfulComment Report abuse
Saritha 5.0 out of 5 stars A story that tries to make a difference.. Reviewed in India on 5 August 2020 This touching story written with simplicity & sincerity, attempts to detach & rationally understand, the events, in the traumatic few years, of a hitherto happy child and the impact it has had on his life & continues to have well into adulthood. The story serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of children & the suffering which can be prevented with sensitisation and in being alert for detrimental behaviour overall.
